Welcome to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital,
Department of Respiratory Medicine's website!

WHO WE ARE

From the day Royal Prince Alfred Hospital first opened its doors to the public, in 1868, patients have been admitted with respiratory diseases¹. During the first few years the most common chest problems were bronchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis and pneumonia¹. Records show that patients with such problems were frequently nursed on the balconies of the hospital¹.

The Department of Respiratory Medicine moved into the purpose built Page Chest Pavilion in 1957², and has recently been relocated to E11 South in the main building, as part of the hospital redevelopment programme.
