ASTHMA CENTRE

The Asthma Centre at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital provides a comprehensive assessment of patients with asthma and related disorders.

The Asthma Centre is staffed by thoracic physicians, an allergy dietitian, an asthma educator and a scientific officer.

OBJECTIVES

For all patients ideally to have:

  • No asthma symptoms
  • No asthma attacks
  • Normal lung function
  • Appropriate medication use

SERVICES

  • Diagnosis and treatment of asthma
  • Diagnosis and treatment of rhinitis
  • Allergy tests
  • Lung function tests
  • Dietary investigations and advice
  • Asthma education
  • Advice on optimal use of medications and devices
  • An opportunity to take part in research projects

  • Initial appointment is by referral from your general practitioner
  • Medicare bulk billing for specialist consultations

ASTHMA RESEARCH

The Asthma Centre takes an active role in asthma research through its association with The Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and the University of Sydney. The Asthma Centre aims to improve our knowledge relating to the cause and treatment of asthma (Internet access is required for these web sites).

Our research studies need volunteers who have asthma. By taking part in a study you will help to improve the understanding of asthma.
