Community TB Nurses work with hospital-based staff to provide a consultation and advisory service for the control of tuberculosis in the community. The service is utilised by individuals, health care workers and organisations in collaboration with the Canterbury, Concord and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals chest clinics.

Services include:

  • Coordination and provision of supervised treatment for all cases of TB
  • Assessment and screening of people who have been exposed to individuals with infection
  • Screening of high risk groups including migrants, refugees and overseas visitors
  • Risk evaluation and, where appropriate, BCG vaccination for health care workers and overseas travellers
  • Education of health care workers about TB disease and occupational risk

Other responsibilities include the collection, collation and reporting of data to the Public Health Unit for inclusion in the NSW Notifiable Diseases Data set.

Those living or working in the Central Sydney Area Health Service who have issues related to the clinical care of tuberculosis
