Child, Adolescent & Family Health Services aim to respond effectively to the physical and mental health needs aged 0 -18 years and their families.
Services are free and confidential (no Medicare card required) and
include:
- Counselling: assessment of children and adolescents with emotional, behavioural or mental health problems.
- Speech Pathology: assessment and therapy for children and adolescents with speech and language difficulties.
- Child Health Nursing: health screening of near school age children up
to adolescent students
as requested by either parents, students or teachers. Assessment
includes vision, hearing, speech and language and any other problem that may
affect the child's learning in school. Health education and promotion is also
offered to schools and community groups.
- Occupational Therapy: assessment and therapy for children with
difficulties participating in everyday activities. These may include play
skills, learning skills in the classroom such as handwriting and self-care
tasks at home.
- Physiotherapy: assessment and therapy for
babies and children who have difficulty with the development of their movement
skills, e.g. learning to sit, walk, jump, hop and catch.
- Child Health Medical Service: provides physical and developmental assessments of children and adolescents, eg assessment of developmental delay, ADHD, bedwetting, etc.
- Audiometry: hearing assessments for children 6 months to 18 years of age.
- Orthoptic Service: provides assessment, treatment, management and referral for children with problems of vision, ocular movement and squint.
- Youth Service: assists homeless and "at risk" young people 12-24 years, including accommodation assistance, health education and help accessing health services (operating from
Cellblock and Belmore Youth Resource Centre).
- Group Programs: access to parenting and
other groups available
Staff available:
Psychologists, social workers, speech pathologists, child health nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, child health medical officers, nurse audiometrists, orthoptists and youth workers.
Access to child psychiatrists.
Who is eligible:
Services are available to children
and adolescents (birth to school completion) who live or attend pre-school/child care or school within the centres' geographical boundaries
and their families who live or work within these boundaries.
